What is Indian Head Massage?

indian head massage by Robert dowdall

Also known as Champissage, I massage the head, neck and face are, with the purpose of manipulating energy channels. My goal is to clear blocks in these energy channels that cause a build-up of negative energy that are purported to cause ailments. When the energy does not flow properly, negative energy builds up, causing common ailments, including stress, pains and aches, and baldness or hair loss.

Indian Head Massage is based on an ancient Ayurvedic healing system practised in India for over 1 000 years. It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy that involves massage of the soft tissues in the upper back shoulders arms neck scalp and face. I use a range of different massage pressures and rhythms to stimulate these areas and help balance natural energies and clear any localised areas of negativity.

Indian Head Massage is not just physical; it works on an emotional level also calming the spirit promoting relaxation and relieving stress. A typical massage can last up to 45 minutes.

Indian head massage is an accessible, convenient, therapeutic treatment which gives instant relief from tension and stress and provides a number of health benefits, as well as improving hair condition. This most pleasurable and therapeutic therapy concentrates on the areas most vulnerable to stress and tension, inducing peace, tranquillity and promoting high levels of alertness and concentration.

Stress undermines both physical and emotional health. When a person is under prolonged stress, their body increases production of certain hormones which bring about marked changes in blood pressure, heart rate and metabolism. Long-term, this can be damaging and debilitating. They also become tense, bringing about change in posture. Because of this, many people suffer from a range of stress-related disorders, including Hair Loss, High Blood Pressure, Skin Disorders, Anxiety and Depression, Allergic Reactions, Muscle Tension, Lack Of Concentration, Infertility and Menstrual Problems and Digestive Disorders, e.g. Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Ulcer.

Stress can also have a detrimental affect the immune system, predisposing people to coughs, colds and other diseases. The body, when in a constant state of alert (stress) inhibits it’s own healing and tissue repair.
